We visited the Seoul tower in... well duh, Seoul. The travel books all described the "walk" to the tower as a 20 minute stroll. HA.
It took 20 minutes alright - up about 30 flights of stairs. And you should know by now that Koreans do not joke around about the steepness of aforementioned stairs. So what we planned as a relaxing walk to Seoul tower was quite the hike.
The view from the top was full of the glorious Korean smog - the product of 44,776 people per square mile - no lie. Look it up if you don't believe me. Just to give you a frame of reference, New York houses 412 people per square mile. Close your jaw.
Once at the top of the tower there was a kitchy little "post office" - the highest in Seoul it claims. We mailed a few postcards like typical tourists. Hi, Dad!
Stop looking at my hair. It's like 100% humidity here, okay!? |
Back down at the bottom we had a wonderful burger and headed over to the main attraction (for me anyway). Seoul tower has this pier that is covered in padlocks meant to symbolize everlasting love. The tradition was started at Seoul Tower in the 1980's. Many people seem to scoff at the idea, but I thought it was cute. Accordingly so, we planted our lock and threw away the key kept the key of course, because throwing the key over the edge is totally frowned upon.... ahem...
We placed our lock in this corner so that we could always remember where it is. There are billions of locks here - each one has a note of endearment or wishes for the future written on it.
I couldn't stop taking pictures. I loved the contrast of the old rusty locks that have been there for so long and the new locks of fresh couples declaring their love.
Okay, that was super corny and stuff. Ew.

It is the ( corney )things we do in life that makes the memories we keep forever... keep up the adventures we love them...
